The Tennessee State Tigers softball team will host the Tennessee Tech Golden Eagles this weekend at Tiger Field for a three-game Ohio Valley Conference series, according to a March 12 announcement.
This matchup is important as both teams continue their conference schedules and look to build momentum early in OVC play. The Tigers are coming off their opening conference road series against Southern Indiana, where they showed offensive potential and resilience.
During the recent series against Southern Indiana, Tennessee State recorded nine hits in the opener, with Jace Jackson, Hailey Hunt, and Kailyn Jean-Baptiste each collecting multiple hits. Jean-Baptiste contributed an RBI triple during a three-run rally in the second inning. In game two, Jean-Baptiste hit a two-run home run and Jasmine Blackburn added a sacrifice fly to give TSU a late lead before Southern Indiana secured a 6-5 win in extra innings. Jackson hit a solo home run in the finale, while Alexis Woods, Hunt, and Makena Hawkins also had hits. Pitchers Chelsi Ervin, Tianna Salcido, Kristian Holder, and Miriam Gordon all saw action over the weekend.
Tennessee State and Tennessee Tech have faced each other regularly since 2008 in OVC play. Recent meetings have been competitive; last season included TSU wins during the regular season series in Cookeville and an extra-inning victory in the 2024 OVC Tournament. Notable recent results include TSU’s 7-2 win on March 9, 2025, and TTU’s 10-2 victory on May 7, 2025.
Key statistics from last weekend include nine hits by TSU in their first game against Southern Indiana and five runs scored during their comeback attempt in game two. Streaming and live stats for this weekend’s games will be available through Tennessee State Athletics prior to first pitch.
The upcoming series offers both teams another opportunity to improve their standings within the conference as they progress through the season.
