Vanderbilt Baseball announced on April 27 that the team finished the week with a 2-2 record, including a notable shutout victory against fourth-ranked Texas.
The update matters for fans and followers as it highlights the team’s performance in key matchups and provides insight into player contributions ahead of upcoming games.
The Commodores started their week strong with an 11-1 win in eight innings against Xavier, where Jacob Faulkner pitched a season-high 4.1 innings and limited Xavier to one run on three hits. Tommy Goodin contributed by going 3-for-4 at bat with five runs batted in (RBI), while Braden Holcomb went 4-for-5 and scored three times.
In their series against Texas, Vanderbilt lost the first game but rebounded Saturday to hand Texas its first shutout loss of the season, winning 6-0. Freshman Aiden Stillman struck out six batters over his second collegiate start, Luke Guth followed by holding Texas to one hit over two-plus innings, and Tyler Baird closed out the game for his fifth save. The trio combined for fourteen strikeouts while allowing just five hits. Holcomb again led offensively with two RBI and two runs scored.
Sunday’s finale was closely contested, ending in a narrow extra-inning loss for Vanderbilt as Texas secured a series win with a score of 4-3 after ten innings. Rustan Rigdon tied the game late with an RBI double before Wyatt Nadeau completed six strong innings on the mound.
Holcomb led Vanderbilt’s offense throughout the week, batting .563 across four games with five RBI and multiple extra-base hits. Goodin also drove in five runs during this stretch.
Looking ahead, Vanderbilt is set to face Middle Tennessee at Hawkins Field on Tuesday before traveling to play No. 24 Alabama in a three-game series starting Thursday.
