Vanderbilt’s baseball team continued its strong start to the season with a 12-1 win over Marist in seven innings on Saturday at Hawkins Field. This victory secured the series for Vanderbilt and marked the team’s fifth consecutive run-rule win.
During their four home games this week, Vanderbilt has scored 57 runs on 59 hits, including 12 home runs and nine doubles. The team is currently batting .465 and has drawn 24 walks while striking out 22 times.
Pitcher Austin Nye delivered five scoreless innings, allowing three hits and striking out six without issuing a walk. He has not allowed a run in his first nine innings pitched this season.
On offense, Vanderbilt scored four runs in each of the first two innings and added two more in the third, quickly building a ten-run lead. Marist managed to score once in the sixth inning, but Vanderbilt responded with two additional runs in their half of the inning. A double play ended the game by run-rule in the seventh.
Tommy Goodin hit a three-run home run in the first inning and followed up with a two-run double in the second. His first five collegiate hits include a grand slam, two three-run homers, a two-run double, and a single.
Logan Johnstone contributed another home run—a two-run shot—finishing 2-for-3 with three RBIs and three runs scored. He now has three home runs for the season.
Braden Holcomb went 2-for-4 with an RBI double and is hitting .588 over his last four games with eight RBIs.
