Vanderbilt University announced on May 8 that its women’s tennis team will travel to Columbus, Ohio, for an NCAA Super Regional match against Ohio State on Saturday. The Commodores, seeded No. 14, will compete against the No. 3 seeded Buckeyes.
This meeting marks the fifth time in six seasons that Vanderbilt and Ohio State have met in postseason play. In their last four encounters, each team has won twice, with Vanderbilt securing victories in 2024 and 2022 and Ohio State winning in 2023 and 2021. All previous matches were hosted by the Buckeyes.
Saturday’s contest is notable as it is the first time both teams are nationally seeded when facing each other and their first matchup at a Super Regional stage; previous meetings occurred during the second round of the NCAA Tournament. Overall, Ohio State leads the all-time series with a record of six wins to three over Vanderbilt.
Vanderbilt enters the match with several players ranked highly by ITA individual rankings. Graduate Célia-Belle Mohr and sophomore Sophia Webster are ranked No. 7 as a doubles pair, while junior Valeria Ray and senior Bridget Stammel are at No. 15 in doubles rankings. In singles play, Stammel holds a No. 12 ranking for Vanderbilt, joined by Mohr at No. 30 and Ray at No. 33.
Ohio State features two players—Lucciana Perry (No. 4) and Teah Chavez (No. 5)—in the singles top five nationally; they are currently the only team with two athletes among this elite group and one of just two schools with multiple singles players ranked inside the top fifteen nationwide.
