The Vanderbilt women’s tennis team will start its NCAA Tournament campaign on Friday, April 30, facing Xavier University. This matchup marks the second consecutive season that the two teams meet in the opening round of tournament play.
Vanderbilt secured hosting rights for the first two rounds after being seeded 14th overall. The Nashville Regional will also feature No. 24 Clemson and East Tennessee State University (ETSU). Both first-round matches are scheduled for Friday, with the regional final set for Saturday afternoon.
The Commodores enter the tournament with a record of 20-9 overall and a Southeastern Conference mark of 9-6. Last year, Vanderbilt eliminated Xavier from postseason contention with a decisive 4-0 victory in the first round. Earlier this season on February 20, Vanderbilt defeated Xavier again by a score of 6-1. The Commodores lead the all-time series against Xavier three matches to none and currently hold a streak of fifteen wins against unranked nonconference opponents.
Xavier arrives in Nashville following its sixth consecutive appearance in the NCAA Tournament and seventh overall. The Musketeers have won nine straight matches, including their run through the Big East Tournament where they claimed their sixth consecutive conference title—the longest such streak since 2013.
Both teams aim to advance beyond regional play as they look toward deeper runs in this year’s NCAA Women’s Tennis Championship.
