Vanderbilt University announced on Apr. 27 that its women’s tennis team will host the first and second rounds of the NCAA Tournament for the second consecutive season, after being named the No. 14 overall seed in the tournament bracket.

The selection means Vanderbilt will play Xavier in Friday’s opening round, with the winner set to face either Clemson or East Tennessee State University (ETSU) on Saturday. The opportunity to host an NCAA Regional in back-to-back years marks a milestone not seen since Vanderbilt did so in both 2018 and 2019.

The Commodores enter postseason play with a record of 20-9 overall and a Southeastern Conference mark of 9-6. They previously defeated Xavier twice: once by a score of 4-0 in last season’s tournament opener, and again earlier this year with a 6-1 win on Feb. 20.

This season featured four ranked victories for Vanderbilt, including a notable win over then-No.1 Georgia on March 6 in Nashville—a result that marked their first victory over a top-ranked opponent since 2019. Senior Bridget Stammel is currently ranked No.11 nationally among singles players according to ITA rankings, while graduate Célia-Belle Mohr holds No.32 and junior Valeria Ray is at No.33.

In doubles competition, Mohr and sophomore Sophia Webster are ranked as Vanderbilt’s top duo at No.6 nationally, joined by Ray and Stammel at No.15 among pairs from across collegiate tennis.

Ray and Stammel were named first-team All-Southeastern Conference selections this year; Mohr earned second-team All-SEC honors.
