Trevecca Nazarene University Men's Soccer | Trojans Top Walsh 3-1; Host ODU Saturday at Noon

The Trevecca Nazarene University men's soccer team (4-7-0, 2-6 Great Midwest) knocked off Walsh University (7-4-2, 4-4-1 Great Midwest) 3-1 on Thursday afternoon at the Trevecca Soccer Complex.

THE SERIES

Trevecca earned their first win in the series since 2018. In the last four meetings, the Cavs had won three and the fourth match was a tie. Walsh leads the series 4-2-1

THE MATCH

Walsh kept the ball in the Trojan's defensive zone for a good portion of the first half. Leaving the Trojans to counterattack. They got their best chance off a free kick just outside the box when the ball was tipped up in the air and Ben Singer headed the ball into the back of the net to give the Trojans the 1-0 lead in the 31st minute. Connor Lundy assisted. The Trojans kept the offensive pressure on following the goal as they took the lead in shots and shots on goal 8-7 and 3-1 respectively at the break.

The match remained 1-0 Trojans until Jacob Sieber scored at 62:19 with an assist by Marlon Grossman. It is the second goal of the year for Jacob Sieber and the first assist for Grossman. Marlon Grossman got his sixth goal of the year at 68:06 on an assist from Tyler Roy. It is the second assist for Roy. That put the Trojans up 3-0.

Gabe Anderson snuck an unassisted goal past Adan Gonzalez at 78:34 for the lone blemish against the Trojan defense.

Adan Gonzalez had two saves for the win. It is the fourth win of the year for Gonzalez.

Trevecca outshot Walsh 13-11, while the Cavs had a 6-2 edge in corners.
