Trevecca Nazarene University Women's Basketball Trojans Defeat Fisk at Homecoming on the Hill

The Trevecca Nazarene University women's basketball team (0-0) defeated Fisk University (0-0) by a score of 68-57 at Homecoming on the Hill on Saturday afternoon.

THE SERIES

The Trojans have never lost to Fisk in the five games these two teams have played in the regular season.

THE MATCH

The Trojan's offense came out strong against Fisk. After scoring the first six points, they jumped out to a 14-5 lead early in the first quarter on a three-pointer by Bayleigh Carmichel. In the second quarter, the Trojans kept the pressure on as they tallied an 11-3 run kickstarted by a Mattie Buck three-pointer to go up 28-14. Fisk's offense began to click in the latter half of the second quarter to cut the Trojan's lead down to 35-27 at halftime.

Both teams settled in to start the third quarter when the scoring slowed down, and both teams traded points. Fisk continued to chip away at the Trojan's lead and got within 46-42 at the end of the third quarter. However, they would go on an 8-3 run to start the fourth quarter, which was highlighted by three-pointers by Keeley Carter and Faith Wilken. Fisk came within one point of the Trojans, but from then on, it was all Trojans as they took it 68-57.

PLAYER STATS BREAKDOWN

Keeley Carter led the Trojans with 23 points and added 12 rebounds. Faith Wilken was second on the team with 15 points and six rebounds while adding an assist. Emma Palmer also had eight points and seven rebounds.

TEAM STATS BREAKDOWN 

The Trojans shot 35.9% (23-64) from the floor, 23.1% (9-39) from three-point range, and 72.2% (13-18) from the free-throw line. The Trojans had the advantage in all three shooting categories and out-rebounded Fisk 47-40.
