Lipscomb University Volleyball’s Delaney Smith Earns All-Academic Selection

Lipscomb volleyball's Delaney Smith kicked off the post-season awards for the Bisons with her selection to the 2022 ASUN All-Academic team as announced by the league office on Wednesday.

"Delaney Smith has just been absolutely fantastic all year and coming into this season we knew that she was going to have to take it up a notch and she's nothing but just amazing things all season," said head coach Brandon Rosenthal. "I can't say enough about her work and, again, a lot of people are going to look immediately at the digs, and while that's important, I think the other huge piece to it - and piece that really allows us to do what we want to do offensively - is her passing."

Smith earned her spot on the team with a 4.0 GPA towards her Bachelor's in Interdisciplinary Teaching: K-5 while competing in all 27 of the squad's matches so far this season.

During her time on the court, the junior libero has led the Bisons' back row with a career-high 391 digs, ranking her 11th in the conference for total digs.

She also ranks eighth in the conference in digs per set with 4.12 digs per set as well as tying for fifth in the ASUN in service aces with 38.

Smith has stepped in to help keep the Bisons' offense moving during out-of-system plays with 90 assists on the season, twice collecting 24 digs in a match and twice dishing out seven assists in a match.

On serve receive, Smith has collected a .944 receive percentage from a total of 425 serve receive attempts.

"For her to be recognized, not only athletically but academically, is awesome," Rosenthal continued. Delaney is one of the hardest workers on the team – on the court and in the classroom – and it's great for her to be recognized at that level."
