Four members of the United States Congress have called on the Biden administration to investigate Chinese biotech company WuXi AppTec and its subsidiaries due to their ties to the Chinese military and human rights abuses. Senators Bill Hagerty and Gary Peters, along with Representatives Mike Gallagher and Raja Krishnamoorthi, have sent a letter to Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo, Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen, and Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin, urging them to take action.

In the letter, the members of Congress expressed concern over WuXi AppTec's rapid growth and its potential threat to US intellectual property and national security. They highlighted the company's close ties to the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) and its involvement in carrying out the party's agenda.

"WuXi AppTec and WuXi Biologics are rapidly becoming a global pharmaceutical and research-services giant that threatens U.S. intellectual property and national security," the members of Congress wrote. "Both companies have close ties to the CCP and have worked at its behest, in multiple instances."

The lawmakers have requested that WuXi AppTec and its subsidiaries be added to three important lists: the Department of Defense's Chinese Military Companies List (1260H list), the Department of Commerce's Bureau of Industry and Security Entity List, and the Department of Treasury's Non-SDN Chinese Military-Industrial Complex Companies List.

The call for investigation comes as part of a larger effort by the US government to address national security concerns related to Chinese companies. The Biden administration has been taking steps to strengthen regulations and oversight, particularly in industries involving sensitive technologies.

The members of Congress believe that WuXi AppTec's ties to the Chinese military and the CCP, coupled with the CCP's human rights abuses, warrant a thorough investigation. They are seeking to ensure that the company's activities are scrutinized and that appropriate measures are taken to protect US interests.
