WASHINGTON—United States Senator Bill Hagerty (R-TN) today released a statement criticizing Senate Democrats for their stance on voting power concerning illegal immigrants.
In his statement, Senator Hagerty expressed his disappointment with the vote outcome regarding his amendment that aimed to prevent illegal immigrants from being counted in the census. He highlighted the significance of the issue by stating, “Today I forced Chuck Schumer to hold a vote on whether illegal aliens should be counted for determining the number of congressional seats and electoral votes each state gets.”
Senator Hagerty accused the Democrats of utilizing illegal immigrants and sanctuary cities to bolster their political influence, as evidenced by their united opposition to his proposed measure. He emphasized that the Democrats' decision to reject the amendment signifies a disregard for American citizens' rights, stating, "Senate Democrats chose to trample on the rights of each American’s voice."
Committing to further action on this matter, Senator Hagerty asserted, "I will continue to fight and press this issue in the Senate."
The debate over the inclusion of illegal immigrants in census counts continues to be a contentious issue, with Senator Hagerty's amendment and the subsequent vote shedding light on the political divisions surrounding the topic.
