United States Senator Bill Hagerty from Tennessee has introduced legislation aimed at stopping the Biden Administration's efforts to sell parts of the border wall. This move comes as President Donald Trump prepares to take office.
Senator Hagerty, a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, expressed his disapproval of the current administration's actions. "It is unconscionable that, weeks before President Trump takes office, the Biden Administration is auctioning off taxpayer-purchased parts of the border wall—for pennies on the dollar—despite that Americans overwhelmingly support its construction," said Senator Hagerty.
The senator highlighted concerns about financial losses and intentions behind these sales. "The parts are being sold for roughly five cents to the dollar, which is a deliberate effort to hinder the incoming Trump Administration from carrying out border wall construction," he stated.
Hagerty's proposed legislation seeks to prevent further sales of these materials. He added, "I’m pleased to introduce this legislation that will put an end to these destructive actions that damage President Trump’s ability to secure our southern border."
