United States Senator Bill Hagerty participated in CNN's Election Day in America to discuss President Trump's recent electoral victory and its implications. As a member of the Senate Banking and Foreign Relations Committees, Hagerty shared his views on various topics during the program.
Regarding speculation about the White House cabinet, Hagerty stated, "I’ll leave the speculation to the speculators. I’m just so excited that President Trump has delivered the mandate that he did on election day." He emphasized the importance of focusing on delivering results for Americans rather than engaging in side discussions.
Hagerty also addressed Nippon Steel's attempt to acquire U.S. Steel, noting that any transaction should be viewed through a national security lens. "It has nothing to do with the nationality of the company that’s trying to make the acquisition," he said. He added that former Secretary Mike Pompeo is closer to this issue and stressed that Nippon Steel must demonstrate how their acquisition would benefit American interests.
Discussing U.S.-Japan relations, Hagerty highlighted mutual concerns over China's rising power. "Japan’s interest and the United States’ interest are completely aligned because both of our nations have suffered from the predatory practices of China," he remarked.
On President Trump's tariff proposals, Hagerty defended past economic outcomes under Trump’s administration. He challenged networks to focus on tangible results rather than speculative threats.
Finally, regarding upcoming Senate leadership elections, Hagerty expressed his priority for a leader who aligns with current challenges and works closely with President Trump. "We’ve got to turn our nation around so we see a stronger economy, stronger national security," he concluded.
