Today, Representative Mark Green introduced a resolution to declare March as Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month. He urged Americans to undergo regular check-ups for early detection of colorectal cancer.
"Today marks the beginning of Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month," Green stated. "Colorectal cancer is the most lethal form of cancer for those aged 20-49. Last year, I joined the late Rep. Donald Payne Jr. at the National Mall in front of 27,400 blue flags, each representing the number of Americans under fifty years old who would be diagnosed with colorectal cancer in 2024."
Green emphasized that early detection and treatment can save thousands of lives annually. He encouraged raising awareness, contacting congressmen to oppose colonoscopy prior authorizations, and scheduling colonoscopies with doctors as ways to make a difference. "We must continue to advocate for colorectal cancer patients to ensure those flags represent a life saved, not a life lost," he said.
He concluded by urging his colleagues and the American public to recognize March as Colorectal Cancer Month.
The resolution was cosponsored by Representatives Nikema Williams (GA-05), Frederica S. Wilson (FL-24), Terri Sewell (AL-07), Haley Stevens (MI-11), Kevin Mullin (CA-15), and Greg Landsman (OH-01).
