Cost of college went up for all students at Nashville State Community College

In-state tuition and fees rose 3.1 percent for 2018-19 at Nashville State Community College, according to recent data from the U.S. Department of Education.

Tennessee residents paid $4,191 to attend the two-year public institution this year – $126 more than the $4,065 charged for 2017-18.

Non-residents paid 293.2 percent more than residents this year, or $16,479. Their price tag grew 2.7 percent from $16,041 in 2017-18.

About 98 percent of the school's undergraduate population are Tennessee residents. And about 2 percent are residents of other states.

Data shows 95 percent of full-time undergraduates who started school in 2015-16 received student financial aid in some form. In all, 1,222 students received grants or scholarships totaling $7 million and 226 students took out student loans totaling more than $1 million.

Including all undergraduates (8,284), 5,558 students used grants or scholarships totaling $23.6 million, and 1,529 students took out $8.7 million in federal student loans.
