Belmont University Women's Soccer (1-1-3) added their third consecutive tie (0-0) against Western Kentucky University Sunday, September 4 in Bowling Green.
The Bruins fought hard against the Lady Toppers in the non-scoring tie. Belmont has battled their way through tough competition this season keeping their defense sound, with their second shutout in a row.
The Lady Toppers defeated Kentucky earlier in the week (1-0), the Bruins came out strong looking to do the same to WKU.
The Bruins produced opportunities recording seven shots, four saves, with two corner kicks. The Bruins displayed strong control over the game staying organized and unified.
Coach Henson told belmontbruins.com after the match she was pleased with the mental fortitude her team demonstrated on the road.
WKU had two major scoring opportunities of its own in the first half both nailing the crossbar.
The physical battle was apparent between the Bruins and Lady Toppers as each team had double digit fouls called against them.
Sarah Doyle played with confidence and composure to keep another clean sheet. The Toppers tallied 20 shots against the Bruin defense.
Belmont brought energy from the outset and earned a quality road result.
"I was very proud of how the women battled; we really showed our grit out on the pitch today," Henson added.
