The thirtieth Trevecca Nazarene University women's basketball team begins the Karen Booker Era with a 27-game regular season schedule with three exhibitions scheduled. The opening game is the 2022 Trevecca Homecoming weekend matchup with the crosstown Fisk University Bulldogs on November 5, 2022. Booker is the sixth women's basketball coach in the history of the program. Debbie Lore started the program in the 70's and Mary Lou Pennington coached one season before the program took a hiatus. Julie van Beek brought the program back in 1996. Gary Van Atta followed van Beek. Chad Hibdon served as coach the last six years.
"We're excited about the upcoming season. We still have much work to do over the next couple of weeks, but we believe our fans will see an immediate difference in this team's pace and discipline of play," Coach Booker said.
The Trevecca's Homecoming exhibition game versus Fisk (November 5 at 1:00 PM) tips off the season at Trojan Fieldhouse on the Hill.
"We look forward to our Homecoming game against Fisk when we'll compete against someone other than ourselves," Coach Karen Booker exclaimed.
The regular season begins with a three-game road trip. The first two are at the Midwest Region Crossover hosted by Southwest Baptist. First up is a Friday, November 11 battle with the host, Southwest Baptist, followed by nationally ranked Drury on Saturday, November 12. The Trojans stay on the road, but in town. They play the first of two exhibition games against NCAA Division I opponents when they travel across town to face Tennessee State University on Tuesday, November 14.
"We play two tough NCAA Division I opponents, TSU and Tennessee Tech, on the road. These are a neat opportunity for our team and exciting for our fans to watch. It will get us ready for our challenging DII foes Lee, Union, and UAH. The crossover tournament at SW Baptist will also be a bear," Coach Booker continued.
The Trojans return home to host Alabama-Huntsville. It is their home regular-season opener on November 16. The Trojans play their last exhibition game on Nov. 17 at Tennessee Tech. The final three non-conference games include a home date against Missouri – St. Louis, then road games at former TranSouth Athletic Conference rival Lee University and Union University to wrap up November. The Lee Flames (26 meetings) and Union Bulldogs (42 meetings) are teams the Trojans have played a lot over the years. Trevecca has played Union more than any other school. Lee is sixth on the list of teams played most frequently.
Coach Karen Booker talked about the November schedule, "The November slate is exceptionally challenging; however, this grueling schedule helps to prepare us for the tough Great Midwest opponents we will begin facing in December."
Great Midwest Athletic Conference play begins with a two-game road trip against conference newcomer Northwood (December 1) and Hillsdale (December 3).
Next, the first conference homestand with Cedarville (12/08) and Ursuline (12/10) visiting. The Trojans go back on the road to face Malone and Ashland before Christmas Break. They'll get one more game in 2022, a home non-conference meeting with Kentucky State on New Year's Eve.
Trevecca continues that homestand to start 2023, hosting Lake Erie (01/05) and Walsh (01/07) at the Trojan Fieldhouse before facing Tiffin (01/12) and Findlay (01/14), both on the road.
