Fisk University #3 Fisk Volleyball Sweeps #6 Tougaloo in First Round of the GCAC Championships

The #3 Fisk Volleyball team swept #6 Tougaloo College in three sets (25-18, 25-10, 25-15) in the first round of the 2022 Gulf Coast Conference Championships held on Friday.

Grad senior opposite hitter Skye Faucher (SR/Castries, St. Lucia) led the Lady Bulldogs' offense with 12 kills and a .400 hitting percentage. Faucher also added three service aces from the backline. GCAC Defender of the year and first-team all-conference honoree Jadyn Brackins (JR/Spring Hill, TN) led the defense with 12 digs and added five assists. GCAC second-team all-conference recipient Tiana Dalton (SR/Nashville, TN) dished out 32 assists and added five kills.

Conference tournament nerves seemed to get the best of the Lady Bulldogs early in the match. However, the Lady Bulldogs regained control of the first and maintained their composure throughout the rest of the game.

The Lady Bulldogs will advance to the semi-final match today against #2 Philander Smith College. Fisk and Philander Smith met up twice during regular-season play. The teams first met on October 8th resulting in a win for the Lady Bulldogs (25-16, 25-21, 25-18). However, Philander Smith edged out the second meeting with a win on October 22nd (18-25, 21-25, 15-25).

The semi-final match #2 Philander Smith vs. #3 Fisk begins on November 5th at 4:00 p.m at the host school, Dillard University. Tickets for the tournament are available here. Free event live streaming is also available via the HBCU League Pass Plus app.
