The Trevecca Nazarene University women's basketball team (2-2) evened their record with a 61-48 win over the University of Missouri - St. Louis (0-3) on Saturday at Trojan Fieldhouse.
It was the sixth game in nine days for the Trojans, including two exhibition games at Tennessee State and Tennessee Tech.
THE SERIES
This is the fifth all-time meeting for Trevecca with UMSL. The Tritons lead the series 3-2. Trevecca's other win came in the first meeting in 2013.
THE FLOW
The first two quarters saw neither team lead by more than six with six lead changes and five ties. Trevecca held the biggest lead of the half (24-18) with just 30 ticks left on the second quarter clock. UMSL scored to make it 24-20 at the break.
Neither team shot well in the first half, with both teams shooting an identical 30% (9-30) from the field.
The Trojans launched out of the locker in the third quarter with a 15-6 run to build a 13-point (39-26) lead with 4:36 left in the quarter. After UMSL cut the lead to seven (41-34) with 2:03 left in the quarter, TNU closed the third leading 44-34. In the third, Trevecca shot 61.5% (8-13) from the field.
Trevecca pushed the lead to 17, which would be the largest lead of the game, several times. The first coming on the back of a 14-4 run that put the Trojans up 53-36 with 6:41 to go in the game.
THE PLAYERS
Lili Wilken led the team with 16 points, hitting 6-9 from the field and 3-5 from three-point range. Emma Palmer (12) and Keeley Carter (10) hit for double figures as well. Palmer nearly got another double-double, with nine rebounds.
THE TEAMS
Trevecca had the edge in bench scoring 27-9 and points from turnovers 13-7. UMSL outrebounded TNU 46-36. Trevecca also outscored UMSL 13-0 on fastbreak points. The Trojans outscored the Tritons 37-28 in the second half.
