Fisk Women's Basketball does it again with another solid victory over reigning Gulf Coast Athletic Conference Champions (RV) Rust College. As a result, the Lady Bulldogs move to 15-6 (9-2 GCAC), while Rust drops to a 16-5 (9-2 GCAC) record.

The Lady Bulldogs recently came off a 3-0 undefeated GCAC pod weekend and held off the previously ranked Rust College Lady Bearcats. Senior Maya Buckahnon led the Lady Bulldog offense with a team-high of 17 points while adding 13 rebounds. Consistent season performer Mya Allen (SR/Kansas City, KS,) rated second on the offense adding 12 points and three assists, while point guard Daigeona Guinn (SO/Jackson, MI) followed up with 10 points and three assists. Sophomore newcomer Anaya Davis (FR/O'Fallon, IL) also contributed 8 points and ten rebounds in the Lady Bulldog victory.  While Fisk jumped to an early lead, the Rust Lady Bearcats fought back to tie up the game. After that, both teams would battle back and forth, switching close leads that would never be more than four points. Following a Fisk timeout with 1.4 seconds remaining on the clock, Maya Buckhanon (SR/Talladega, AL) lands a jump shot (assist by Anaya Davis) to secure the 63-61 victory.

The win moves the Lady Bulldogs into a three-way tie for first place in the GCAC with Fisk, (RV) Rust, and (RV) Philander Smith.

The Lady Bulldogs will be back in action today for day two of the Philander Smith-hosted GCAC pod. Fisk will face the host (RV) Philander Smith Lady Panthers at 5:00 pm.

Fisk and Philander had their first conference game on Sunday, January 15th resulting in a 73-63 win for the Lady Bulldog's Basketball Squad. Philander Smith is currently on a seven-game conference winning streak since they last faced the Lady Bulldogs.
