United States Senator Bill Hagerty recently appeared on ABC News' "This Week" to discuss the role of Congress in confirming President Donald Trump's cabinet nominees. Hagerty emphasized the need for quick confirmations, stating that Trump is eager to implement significant changes in Washington. "He clearly expects to hit the ground running," said Hagerty, expressing his willingness to work diligently to ensure Trump's team is ready by January 21.

Hagerty also addressed Pete Hegseth's nomination for Defense Secretary amidst allegations against him. He described Hegseth as an inspirational leader and downplayed the impact of the allegations, emphasizing the need for change at the Pentagon. "What we need is real, significant change," he stated.

The senator criticized Democratic opposition to Trump's cabinet choices and highlighted perceived failures within the current administration. He specifically mentioned Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas and Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin, calling for more competent leadership.

On Department of Defense policies, Hagerty stressed that these are set by the President, not cabinet members. He expressed confidence that Hegseth would follow Trump's lead if confirmed.

Hagerty also discussed recess appointments as a potential tool if confirmation processes face delays. He urged Democrats to cooperate but noted that all options should remain available if resistance persists.
