United States Senator Bill Hagerty introduced Michael Kratsios, nominated by President Donald Trump, for the role of Director of the Office of Science and Technology Policy (OSTP). The introduction took place during a Senate Commerce Committee hearing.

Senator Hagerty highlighted Kratsios's extensive experience in science and technology policy. "Today, I am privileged to introduce Michael Kratsios, President Trump’s nominee to be Director of the Office of Science and Technology Policy," said Hagerty. He emphasized the OSTP Director's role in advising on critical technological sectors such as artificial intelligence, quantum computing, 5G, advanced manufacturing, and biotechnology.

Hagerty shared his past collaboration with Kratsios on telecommunications infrastructure during his tenure as U.S. Ambassador to Japan. He underscored the importance of effective leadership in emerging technologies to maintain America's global position. "Now, more than ever, emerging technologies present us with immense opportunities to maintain America’s global dominance," he stated.

Kratsios's foresight in recognizing AI's potential nearly a decade ago was noted by Hagerty. His previous roles include Chief Technology Officer of the United States and Under Secretary of Defense for Research and Engineering. In these positions, he played a significant role in coordinating public-private partnerships and developing national strategies for AI and quantum technologies.

After leaving public service, Kratsios became Managing Director at Scale AI, contributing to its status as a leading private AI company. His research also revealed how banned Chinese technologies were still being acquired by state and local governments in the U.S., highlighting risks associated with PRC-manufactured equipment at American ports.

Hagerty concluded by emphasizing America's need to lead in scientific innovation for national security and prosperity. "Michael understands this mission, and that’s why I wholeheartedly support his nomination," he affirmed.
