Rep. Mark Green has commented on the recent meeting between President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. The statement comes after discussions held in the Oval Office regarding a proposed agreement involving security, reconstruction funding for Ukraine, and access to rare earth minerals for the United States.
Rep. Green remarked, "President Trump offered Ukraine a win-win which would have provided security, a fund to rebuild the country, and rare earth minerals for the United States." He criticized President Zelenskyy's approach during the meeting, stating that he "disrespected the President of the United States."
Highlighting the offer made by President Trump, Rep. Green emphasized its uniqueness: "A 50/50 split is beyond generous. No mining company and its investors would ever do that deal. Most mining companies get 90% and the country gets 10%." He described Trump's proposal as an "amazing deal" with potential to resolve ongoing conflict and destruction.
The statement underscores Rep. Green's stance on future negotiations: "The era of blank checks is over."
