Coach Kelsey Cameron is now the all-time winningest women's soccer coach at Trevecca Nazarene University. With Trevecca's 2-1 win over Lake Erie College today, Cameron is 45-33-15 all-time in her sixth season at Trevecca.
Cameron, who was an all-SEC performer at the University of Kentucky, has one more win than Brett Armstrong guided the Purple and White to 44 wins in his six years at the helm.
Trevecca is now 4-2-1 (2-1 Great Midwest) on the year and ranked No. 8 in this week's second United Soccer Coaches NCAA Division II Midwest Region poll. Cameron, who helped lead the University of Kentucky to an SEC title, has led the Trojans to a 4-2-1 record against a strong schedule earning the No. 9 ranking in the first poll two September 6.
Cameron, who was an assistant at Lipscomb prior to taking the helm of the Trojans, is 38-20-9 in Great Midwest Athletic Conference matches. Her 38 conference wins are the seventh most in league history and easily the most conference wins by any of TNU's previous coaches.
Cameron broke Armstrong's record. The former head coach was 44-61-8 as he built the Trojans into a winner. Armstrong's final season, 2012, was the first in the NCAA D2 Era. He led the Trojans to a 16-5-3 mark overall and won the very first Great Midwest Championship and advanced to the NCCAA Nationals.
With the win, the Trevecca Nazarene University women's soccer team (4-2-1, 2-1-0 Great Midwest) wrapped up its road trip with a win over Lake Erie College (1-4-1, 0-3-0 Great Midwest) 2-1 while on the road on Saturday.
THE SERIES
The Trojans holds the advantage in the all-time series with a 4-0-1 record. The Trojans claimed last season's meeting 1-0 at Lake Erie on October 14th.
THE MATCH
The Trojans shot out of the gate and built momentum quickly as they had the game's first three shots. The third shot ended up being a goal by Gigi Ariola just 8:14 into the first half. Isabel Felger and Makena Schlosser were credited with assists. Following the goal, Lake Erie took a couple of shots and tied the game up in the 23rd minute. Both teams would settle in defensively as neither team registered a shot the rest of the half.
The Trojans took control in the second half, holding Lake Erie to no shots while the Trojans piled them up. However, Lake Erie Goalkeeper Megan Biddell kept the score at 1-1. Then in the 83rd minute, the Trojans broke through when Makena Schlosser scored to give the Trojans the 2-1 lead. The goal is Schlosser's second of the season and the 20th in her career and her 48th career point which both are ranked fourth in the NCAA Era.
