Trevecca Nazarene University Women's Golf | Season Preview / Opening Tournament Begins Monday

The Trevecca Nazarene University women's golf team begins to play Monday (September 19) at the Champions of Women's Golf Classic in Columbus, Ohio. The two-day tournament hosted by Ohio Dominican University puts the Trojans on the links for the first time since last spring when Emma McCloskey advanced to the NCAA Division II Regional.

NEW SEASON / NEW FORMAT TWIST

The opening tournament brings a new twist to collegiate golf. The 36-hole tournament is utilizing a six-person team with the top four scores counting toward the team competition. All six members of the team are a part of the individual Medalist competition as well. Traditionally, collegiate golf tournaments utilize a five-person team competition with the top four scores counting toward the team competition. The six Trojans for this first tournament are Emma McCloskey, Anna Chew, Gabriela Mead, Jodie Taylor, Ava Neal, and Sara Blake Coley.

The tournament begins with tee-time on Monday with the first Trojan, Emma McCloskey, teeing off at 9:12 AM. On Tuesday, the tournament features a 9 AM shotgun start for all teams.

Not all tournaments will use this new team scoring format twist.

2022-23 PREVIEW

ROSTER

The Trojans are led by Emma McCloskey who in her second season in the Purple and White became the latest Trojan to reach the regionals. McCloskey returns with a graduate year after finishing 41st in the NCAA Div. II East Regional at the end of last season. She also collected Great Midwest Athletic Conference first-team honors. The roster stands at seven after Valeria Vargas graduated.

Ava Neal and Makenzie Norwood comprise the freshmen class. The duo hail from South Carolina. Anna Chew, who was named to the 2021-2022 Great Midwest First Team and earned G-MAC Golfer of the Week honors, is a junior along with Jodie Taylor, whose season scoring average last year was a career-best. Sara Blake Coley and Gabriela Mead, who had a top 10 finish last year, round out the sophomore class and roster.

2022 FALL SCHEDULE

The Trojans travel to Columbus, Ohio for the Champions for Women's Golf Classic on September 19-20 to kickstart the fall season. Then the Trojans finish the month at the East Tennessee Collegiate Sept 26-27.

The month of October sees the Trojans playing host to the Music City Invitational at the Old Fort Golf Club in Murfreesboro, October 17-18 before they close the month and fall season at the Kentucky Wesleyan Invite on October 29-30 at Owensboro's The Pearl Club.

The Spring slate is yet to be announced, but the team will target all their work for the 2023 Great Midwest Athletic Conference Championships on April 21-22, 2023.

2021-22 SEASON

The Trojans finished the season third at the Great Midwest conference tournament. Emma McCloskey advanced to the NCAA East Regional where she ended up 41st overall with a three-day total of 81-79-82=242. McCloskey's trip was significant as it marked just the third time an individual has represented the Trojans at a Regional.
