Trevecca Nazarene University Men's Soccer | Trojans Gain Draw with Late Goal vs. Cedarville

The Trevecca Nazarene University men's soccer team (6-9-1, 4-8-1 Great Midwest) finished their home schedule with a 1-1 tie with visiting Cedarville University (8-7-2, 6-6-1 Great Midwest) on Senior Day on the Hill.

THE SERIES

The Trojans are now 2-14-4 record versus Cedarville. Cedarville took the earlier meeting this season 1-0 at Cedarville.

THE FLOW

Cedarville came out of the gates with offensive pressure. However, the Trojan's defense and goalkeeper Adan Gonzalez denied multiple Yellow Jacket chances. Eventually, Cedarville was able to break through in the 34th minute to make it 1-0. A few minutes later, Adan Gonzalez made a leaping save to keep it 1-0. Trevecca mounted pressure late in the half but couldn't get a clean shot on goal due to the stellar Cedarville defense.

The Trojans kept the pressure on in the second half, as they tallied eight shots. The Trojans controlled the ball in the Cedarville defensive zone for a heavy portion of the half and it finally paid off when Ben Singer centered, and Marlon Grossmann deflected the pass in the net to tie the game 1-1 in the 88th minute.

Both teams had chances in the final moments, but neither team could break the tie.

THE MATCH NOTES

Marlon Grossman's goal is his eighth of the year, putting him in a tie for fourth for goals in a season during the NCAA D2 era. Jonathan Baskin owns the record with 10 during the 2012 season. Ethan Keogh (2017) and Jeremiah Wright (2013) each scored nine.

Adan Gonzalez had five saves in the match, more than one was spectacular preserving the opportunity for the draw. Four of his saves were in the second half with Cedarville trying to add to their slim lead.
