Lipscomb University Women’s Cross Country’s Lydia Miller Makes Lipscomb XC History at 2022 NCAA Championship

Lipscomb women's cross country's Lydia Miller completed her 2022 campaign Saturday morning at the NCAA National Championship. Miller earned the highest finish in both men's and women's program history as she finished 96th in a field of 253 runners with a time of 20:36.8 in the 6K race.

"We're really proud of Lydia and the season that she's had," said Director of Cross Country and Track & Field Nick Polk. "We challenged her at the start of the season to be a front runner and that's exactly what she did."

On the cold Friday morning in Oklahoma, Miller brought the heat from Music City as she kept pace with the lead pack of runners, sitting at 23rd position for the 1.11K split. She remained in the top-50 throughout the 4.0K split, including a 9:25.6 mark at the 2.83K split.

The Worthington, Ohio native clocked in at 16:40.8 with just over a kilometer to go in the race to hold 65th at the 4.93K split before making her mark in Bisons history with her final time of 20:36.8 to cross the line 96th.

Miller has been a guiding force for the Bisons all season, collecting five top-10 finishes and a pair of second-place overall finishes throughout Lipscomb's 2022 season. She helped push the Bisons' pace to collect four top-five finishes as a team, including their ninth ASUN Conference Championship. Miller's speed has seen her claim the 5K program record with a 16:26.5 at the ASUN Championship and the 6K program record with a 19:52.4 at the 2022 NCAA South Region Championship.

"Lydia really went for it today and raced with the best," Coach Polk continued. "We're confident she'll have more opportunities at this meet in the future!"
