The Trevecca Nazarene University women's basketball team (6-5, 3-2 Great Midwest) traveled to Malone University (7-4, 4-2 Great Midwest) on Saturday afternoon and fell 77-64.
THE SERIES
The ninth all-time meeting favored the Pioneers, who have never lost to the Trojans since 2016-17. Trevecca claimed all four NAIA contests over Malone.
THE FLOW
Malone charged out of the gates to a 14-2 lead, as the Trojans had not played in a week. Once the rust was gone, the Trojans began chipping away at their deficit. A three-pointer by Faith Wilken with 16 seconds left in the first quarter cut the score to 23-15. Malone continued to control the pace in the second quarter as they built up a 15-point lead with 7:14 left in the half. Keeley Carter led an 8-3 Trojans run that brought the Trojans within 35-25 with 4:12 left. The teams would trade baskets as the score at halftime was 41-30.
Keeley Carter scored on a layup to start the second half scoring. But Malone kept the Trojans from catching up. They finally broke through on a 10-4 run led by six points from Emma Palmer, which made it 53-48 with 48 seconds left in the third quarter. Malone regained momentum in the fourth and put the game away after a flurry of three-pointers.

The Trojans shot 45% (27-60) from the floor, 12.5% (3-24) from three-point range, and 53.8% (7-13) from the free-throw line. The Trojans had a 20-11 advantage in bench points.
