The Trevecca Nazarene University women's basketball team (8-6, 4-3 Great Midwest) hosted Lake Erie College (6-6, 2-4 Great Midwest) on Thursday night and won 79-47.
THE SERIES
The Trojans have now won seven straight games over the Storm and hold a 7-1 advantage in the all-time series.
THE FLOW
Lake Erie scored the first bucket of the game, but the Trojans took over from there as they went up 10-4 after five Keeley Carter points. Later in the first quarter, the Trojans built up a 20-8 lead following a 10-1 run capped off by a Kor Fornesa Liu layup. The Trojans scored five straight points to end the first quarter up 25-11. Lake Erie fought back early in the second quarter as they cut their deficit to 32-24. But the Trojans finished the half on a 7-2 run, finished off by a Faith Wilken three.
The Trojans came out of the half firing on all cylinders as they extended their lead to 19 points following a Lili Wilken three-pointer with 6:53 left in the third quarter. The scoring continued throughout the quarter as Trevecca had a 24-point lead heading into the final frame. In the fourth quarter, the Trojans put the game way out of reach as they led by as much as 33 points after a layup by Julie Luna free with 1:16 remaining.
THE PLAYERS
Keeley Carter led the Trojans with 22 points and 10 rebounds for the double double. She also had six assists. Emma Palmer had 14 points and six rebounds. Kor Fornesa Liu added 10 points and eight rebounds.
THE TEAMS
The Trojans shot 50% (28-56) from the floor, 47.4% (9-19) from three-point range, and 70% (14-20) from the free-throw line. The Trojans outrebounded Lake Erie 44-34.
