The Trevecca Nazarene University women's basketball team (16-7, 12-4 Great Midwest) hosted Ohio Dominican University (6-15, 3-11 Great Midwest) on Saturday afternoon and won 68-63.
THE SERIES
The Panthers have the advantage in the all-time series, 7-3. The Panthers won the last meeting 75-65 in Columbus on February 4, 2022, which snapped a two-game Trojan win streak.
THE FLOW
The Trojans were rolling to begin the game as they jumped out to a 7-2 lead following a pair of Emma Palmer buckets and a Bayleigh Carmichel three. However, Ohio Dominican responded with a solid push to take an 18-13 with 2:25 left in the first quarter. Then the Trojans finished the quarter by scoring 13 straight to take the lead back at the start of the second quarter, six of which were by Kor Fornesa Liu, to go up 26-18. In the second quarter, the Trojans maintained their lead for the first five minutes of the quarter, then the Panthers got hot and went on a 15-3 run to go up 37-35 with 57 seconds left.
The Trojans opened up the second half with a 9-2 start capped off by a Bayleigh Carmichel three. Then the Panthers and Trojans traded baskets, with the Trojans keeping a 57-49 advantage going into the final frame. In the fourth quarter, the scoring slowed down as the Panthers inched closer with a slow 14-1 run to take a 63-58 lead with 2:17 remaining. However, the Trojans scored 10 straight points to take back the lead and would hold on to win 68-63.
THE PLAYERS
Bayleigh Carmichel led the Trojans with 20 points and four rebounds. Kor Fornesa Liu had a career-high 15 points and nine rebounds. Faith Wilken added 13 points and six rebounds.
THE TEAMS
The Trojans shot 46.3% (25-54) from the floor, 35.3% (6-17) from three-point range, and 70.6% (12-17) from the free-throw line. The Trojans outrebounded Ohio Dominican 30-26.
