United States Senator Bill Hagerty recently appeared on Fox News' "Sunday Morning Futures with Maria Bartiromo" to discuss significant foreign policy and economic issues. The conversation covered the recent developments in Syria, Ukraine, and Israel, as well as the economic priorities of Congress under the incoming Trump Administration.
Discussing the situation in Syria, Hagerty remarked on the collapse of the Assad regime: “Well, what we’ve seen is a 53-year regime of the Assad family completely collapsed in the face of 13 days. This wouldn’t have been possible had Israel not taken its own best interest to heart and taken out Hezbollah in southern Lebanon.” He criticized the Biden Administration's approach towards Syria and expressed optimism about changes expected with President Trump's return to office.
Hagerty also commented on conflicts involving Ukraine and Israel: “I think you see the way these world leaders are reacting. They have the same sense of relief that President Trump is coming to office that we feel all across America." He highlighted Trump's intention to resolve tensions between Ukraine and Russia and praised Israel's handling of threats from Hamas and Hezbollah.
On domestic matters, Hagerty emphasized tax reform as a priority for Congress: “Well, the tax bill is an incredibly high priority for us. If it’s not fixed this year, it’s going to be more than $4 trillion worth of incremental taxes added to the backs of Americans.”
He also discussed legislative strategies such as reconciliation bills needed for tax extensions and border security measures: “You definitely need it for the tax extensions, but there are legislative elements of what’s going on at the border right now that we need to stop.”
Regarding sanctions enforcement, Hagerty stressed its importance: “The number one priority for incoming [Treasury] Secretary [Scott] Bessent has got to be enforcing the sanctions that are already on the books."
