The 16-year-old male driver of a 2012 Lexus 250, that early Saturday morning rear ended a Honda CRV on I-24 East near Lickton Pike, will be charged in Juvenile Court with vehicular homicide and four counts of vehicular assault upon his release from the hospital.
The preliminary investigation shows that around 3:30 a.m. the teen was traveling east on I-24 at a high rate of speed when he struck the rear of the CRV driven by Eduardo Tovar-Carrizales, 47, of Hendersonville. The CRV spun off the roadway and rolled into the wood line. Tovar-Carrizales and his 46-year-old front seat passenger sustained minor injuries. A rear seat passenger, Rosa Delia Torres, 62, of Nashville, died at the scene. A fourth 64-year-old rear passenger was transported to Skyline Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries. The rear seat passengers were not wearing their seatbelts.
The Lexus also traveled into the wood line. The teen driver showed indicators of impairment. Toxicology testing is being conducted on the teen driver. He and his 16-year-old male passenger were transported to Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
