United States Senator Bill Hagerty recently appeared on Varney & Company on Fox Business to discuss the Biden Administration's call for a ceasefire in Gaza and Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida's upcoming visit to Washington.
Regarding the ceasefire in Gaza, Hagerty expressed his concern about the erosion of U.S. support for Israel. He stated, "President [Joe] Biden at the very outset of this war basically said the right thing, that the United States stands with Israel. But what we’ve seen is U.S. support erode. It’s very, very disturbing to me to see us not standing strong." Hagerty emphasized the need to hold Hamas accountable, saying, "Hamas needs to be put out of business quickly, and Joe Biden should stand behind that plan."
Hagerty also commented on the upcoming visit of the Japanese Prime Minister to Washington, highlighting the strong alliance between the United States and Japan. He said, "This is the strongest alliance that we have in the Indo-Pacific region...These are strong bonds that need to be reinforced."
Furthermore, Hagerty addressed China's hostility in the Indo-Pacific region, noting, "China has now, unfortunately, particularly after the fall of Afghanistan, come back with a vengeance in that region." He stressed the importance of showing the strength of the alliance between the U.S. and Japan to deter aggressive actions by countries like China and North Korea.
Senator Hagerty's insights on these critical international issues provide valuable perspective on the ongoing developments in the global arena.
