WASHINGTON—United States Senator Bill Hagerty (R-TN) strongly criticized Senate Democrats for their attempt to impede the impeachment trial of Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas. Hagerty accused the Democrats of trying to evade their constitutional duty and overlook the serious allegations against Secretary Mayorkas.

Hagerty highlighted the importance of upholding the impeachment process, stating, "In our nation’s 248-year history, the House of Representatives has impeached officials in 21 cases." He emphasized the significance of Senate involvement in impeachment trials, pointing out that it is a constitutional responsibility to review the articles of impeachment.

The Senator condemned Secretary Mayorkas's actions, specifically focusing on the alleged abuse of parole authority and the influx of illegal aliens into the United States. Hagerty stated, "He’s now flying 30,000 illegal aliens per month directly into the United States for resettlement," calling it a blatant violation of the parole law.

Furthermore, Hagerty criticized the Secretary's decision to impound funds allocated for border wall construction, accusing Mayorkas of disregarding Congress's mandate. The Senator highlighted the negative impacts of the Biden Administration's immigration policies, citing instances of drug overdoses, violent crime, and national security threats at the Southern Border.

Hagerty urged his colleagues to proceed with the impeachment trial, emphasizing the importance of examining the evidence and holding Secretary Mayorkas accountable. He concluded his remarks by urging the Majority Leader not to block consideration of the impeachment articles against Secretary Mayorkas, stating, "If the Majority Leader wishes to honor and preserve the world’s greatest deliberative body, I urge him not to take this unprecedented step."
